Health Mandatory Opt-In Requirement

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are very excited to be teaching Health to your 6th grader this year. Our goal is to educate your child on the four components of wellness - social, emotional, mental, and physical health, as guided by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education.

As we are set to begin our physical education portion of our curriculum, it is necessary for us to reach out to you in reference to some of the subjects we will be teaching in 6th grade with the support of the text, Texas Health Skills for Middle School Copyright © 2023 by The Goodheart-Willcox Company, Inc. A copy of the materials will be made available through our campus website.

Below are the subjects we will discuss in class. Please feel free to read the coordinating chapters and specific pages we will use in order to give your child the most well rounded and age-appropriate health education possible.

** The subjects are as follows:

  • Ch 17.1 Puberty/The Beginning of Life (p.544-547)
  • Ch 17.2 Adolescence and Puberty (p.552)
  • Ch 19.1 Abstinence (p.613, p.616)

While this opt-in form must be signed and returned to us by Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, we want to encourage you to feel free to read the material and reach out to us should you have any questions or concerns. We firmly believe we will not be successful without your guidance and participation in this venture. While we will answer questions and encourage a learning community, we will also encourage your child to come to you specifically with questions they may have or discussions they may want to understand further.
