Instrument Information and Supply List
If you are a beginner and need a beginner book or an instrument, if you already have an isntrument and need repairs or if you just need some music supplies, below is a list of local music stores that can get you what your child needs.
Instruments:
School provided instruments:
Due to the cost of some instruments, the school provides them for the students to use, but the student still needs to purchase the mouthpiece and/or necessary supplies for that instrument. Parents are responsible for any damages that occur to the instrument. School provided instruments are Tuba, Trombone, Baritone, French Horn, and Bassoon.
Family provided instruments:
These are the instruments that are rented or purchased by the family. Family provided instruments are Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Oboe and Percussion.
Supplies:
All students need a pencil every day in class.
Essential Elements 2000 Beginner Book. All 6th grade student or beginner 7th/8th grade student will need to purchase a book for their respective instrument. We will have a limited supply at school for sale on a first come basis.
-Brass players will need valve oil (slide oil for trombone).
-Saxophones will need reeds (Vandoren #2 ½) and cork grease.
-Clarinets will need reeds (Vandoren #3), cork grease and a cleaning swab.
-Flutes will need a cotton cleaning cloth. Make sure your flute comes with a cleaning rod.
-Percussion will need a percussion kit for practicing at home.
-Oboe/Bassoon will need reeds (medium strength), cork grease.
-Each student will be assigned a folder with practice material and assignments that we use in class each day. The student is responsible for taking care of this folder and must turn it in at the end of the school year.
***Being in band costs money and brings on certain financial obligations that are the responsibility of the band member. Students will be required to provide their own instrument (If playing Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone or Trumpet), accessories (such as reeds, valve oil, etc.), book, and any other expenses that may arise during the year. Please contact the director if you are having problems meeting these obligations and this issue will be worked out confidentially. No student will be denied participation in band due to financial issues. Parents are responsible for damages caused by student’s neglect or abuse to school instruments.***
