ALGEBRA 2: 1st, 5th, AND 7th PERIODS

Course Description

We live in a time where we have access to vast amounts of information, much it is quantitative in nature.  It is imperative that individuals be prepared to analyze the information as they sift through the data to make informed, reasoned decisions.  This requires  the application of basic mathematics skills, such as algebra, to the analysis and interpretation of real-world DATA in context in order to draw conclusions that are relevant to our daily lives.  Ultimately, Algebra 2 students will be able to critically analyze data presented graphically, numerically, algebraically, or verbally. and make reasonable predictions based on their analysis of the data and the models derived.

Algebra 2 offers an opportunity for students to discover the beauty and practical power of mathematics. .  Instruction is focused on student thinking, engagement, and collaboration.  Concepts and skills are taught while a sense of algebra's utility in the real world is conveyed.  Algebra 2 provides in depth coverage of algebra concepts that students will use the rest of their lives in many fields.  This course will also help students develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills, and connect algebraic concepts to real life applications. Students are expected to communicate mathematical ideas using algebraic, graphic, numeric, and verbal representations. Topics include linear functions, systems, polynomial functions, rational expressions, powers, roots, radicals, quadratics, exponential and logarithmic functions, and inverse functions..

PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS

My normal class expectations are:

Come to class prepared and on time.  Prepared means having all materials and completed assignments.  On time means ready to work when the bell rings, not starting to get your materials unpacked.

Be productive and contribute to class activities.

Cell Phones and earbuds are not allowed in class.  When you enter the class, turn off your phone and place it your purse or backpack.  If you are caught with your cell phone during class, it will be turned over to the teacher and held until Friday after school, (if collected on a Friday, it will be held until the following Friday).  If needed sooner, a parent may come in to retrieve it.

You should treat yourself, your classmates, your instructor, and any guests with respect. listen to and follow directions the first time they are given, and follow the student code of conduct.
