Sociology Google Classroom

Google classroom join code is posted in the classroom.  Weekly planner, course information, assignments, class materials, and videos are posted in the Sociology Google Classroom. 


Chapter Assignments

Reading, Writing & Thinking (RWT) Assignments (40%)

Pick one selection from the assigned chapter that most interests you.

Give the title and page number of your reading selection.

Write, in your own words, a half a page summary of that section.

Analyze the section you have read. 

Construct a critical analysis, compare how the information applies to your own life, commentary, or ask questions about the topic. These RWTs will be graded by chapter.

 

Vocabulary Quiz  and/Chapter Vocabulary, People & Theories (40%)

  • Vocabulary Quizzes will be given.  Students can improve their quiz by hand writing the definitions, and/or a picture or sentence on notebook paper or flash cards to improve the grade. Students can earn a point for each vocabulary word  that has a definition, a sentence and an illustration. Grades can be improved up to a 90.  If no vocabulary is completed the quiz will remain unchanged.  

Quick Checks (10%)

Students will be assigned to a read section of text, watch a video or take notes in class.  Students will be assessed on their acquisition of knowledge in form of questions completed individually, in groups or participation in class discussions.


Tests (50%)

Every chapter test will have 2 required short answers questions.    An additional short answer question will be offered to all students to complete for extra credit on every test.  Students will receive a study guide and the short answer questions days before the test.   Short answer questions and the study guide will be reviewed before test

 

RETESTING POLICY

  • Any student may retake a test if the following requirements are met:

Taken within 2 weeks of students receiving grade

Re-teaching methods determined at teacher discretion (i.e. WIN, tutoring, additional assignments)

At teacher discretion an alternative assessment may be used.

  • Once the requirements are met, the higher of the two grades will be the final grade for that test. 

 

Grading Policy

Quick Checks (after homework, assignments, group games or reviews) are worth 10%. Chapter assignments, vocabulary quizzes, and cooperative groups are worth 40% of the grade.  Chapter tests and individual and group projects are worth 50%. Students who have not turned in assignments will be referred to the WIN and/or tutoring.  Parents will be notified if students refuses to attend WIN/tutoring. Repeat offending students who refuse to attend tutoring will be referred to Principal.

 

Tardies

First                     Tardy Warning 

Second Tardy      Teacher will conference with student 

Third Tardy          Teacher will contact parents and conference with student 

Fourth Tardy        Teacher will submit tardy form to administrator who will schedule the lunch  

                              detention date and require tardy form be signed by parent. 

Fifth or more        Teacher will submit tardy form to administrator. Disciplinary action will be 

                              taken by the administrator in accordance with the Student Handbook.

Electronics:

Chromebooks

Students are required to follow all aspects of the RFISD Acceptable Use Agreement, Student Code of Conduct, and Chromebook Initiative Handbook.

Chrome books may be used during class time to complete assignments. All use of the Chromebook will be at teacher discretion. If at any time there is reason to believe the Chromebook is being used for reasons other than those given in instruction students will be asked to turn it off and put it away. No exceptions.

Cell Phones

Cell phones must be put away upon entering the classroom. Cell phones will only be used at the discretion of the teacher.

 

Supplies

Students will need a notebook, highlighters, markers and/or colored pencils.
